Utah Jet Ski Rental Policies

How renting from our family works: what's included, deposits, and Utah's boater rules.

We keep our rental policies short. Here’s how renting from our family works, what’s included, and what Utah law asks of every rider. Got a question we didn’t cover? Call us at (801) 923-8185. A real person picks up, not a phone tree.

How rentals work

We’re a family-owned shop with off-lake pickup at 901 S. 1800 W in Woods Cross. That means no rental counter to wait at once you get to the lake. You still share the public ramp, so on a busy weekend, get there early. You grab your jet ski from us, then head to the lake you’ve got planned.

  • Day and multi-day rentals only. We don’t do hourly or half-day. A full day is up to 12 hours, 8 AM to 8 PM, or you can keep the machine for several days in a row. More time on the water, less time watching the clock.
  • Off the water by sunset. Utah law doesn’t allow jet skis on the water between sunset and sunrise (Utah Code 73-18-15.3 (opens in a new tab)). In the fall that can be well before 8 PM, so plan your last run around it.
  • Reserve online ahead of time. Booking runs through our “Book Online Now” button, which takes you to our reservation partner, Recreogo. Pick your machine and dates there, and you’re set. Online booking covers our rental season, April through October.
  • Pickup is in Woods Cross. You tow from our location to the lake. Park next to the trailer with your machine on it, and we’ll walk you through the drain plugs, straps, winch, brake and reverse lever and more, plus the controls and the basics for first-timers, before you leave (no rush).
  • Or we deliver. We deliver to Bear Lake, Pineview, Willard Bay, Jordanelle, Utah Lake, and Deer Creek, and to other lakes with our approval (we don’t deliver to Lake Powell). The delivery fee is per trip and depends on the location. When a lake’s ramps are closed, we still deliver, just to other lakes, and if a machine can’t be launched at a lake, we’ll let you know.
  • What you need to rent. You must be 18 or older, with a valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance. For pickup, your vehicle needs a 2-inch hitch and a flat 4-prong light hookup.
  • Fresh water only. Our machines aren’t allowed in salt water, including the Great Salt Lake.
  • No pets. Our machines are people-only.
  • We’re open 8 AM to 8 PM daily, April through October. Plenty of room to get an early start or stretch into the evening. November through March is our off-season: no rentals, but we still answer the phone 8 AM to 8 PM daily.

We rent three Sea-Doo models (the GTX PRO 130 also as a set of two), plus stand-up paddleboards and a tube package. For machine details, see our fleet, and for day rates and multi-day discounts, see pricing.

What’s included

Every rental comes with the essentials so you’re not scrambling at the ramp:

  • Life jackets provided: we stock USCG-approved (U.S. Coast Guard-approved) life jackets, the type Utah law requires (opens in a new tab), in sizes from small child and youth to adult S, M, L, XL and XXL. Two come with each machine, and extras are $10 a day.
  • Trailer for pickup rentals, at no extra charge: we hitch it to your vehicle, which is why you need a 2-inch hitch and flat 4-prong lights.

Fuel

Fuel isn’t included: machines go out with an empty tank and come back empty, so fill up on your way to the lake. Gas cans are available on request. If you refuel from one, pull the machine out of the water and away from the ramp first, and follow the marina’s own rules. With a paid delivery, you can ask us to fuel the machines on the way to your drop-off, for the added cost of the fuel.

Add-ons

Want to add a paddleboard, a tube or a wakeboard to your day? Our inflatable stand-up paddleboards are $35 a day, with a paddle, pump, leash and one life jacket per board (300 lb weight limit), and a tube package (rope included) is $30 a day when you book. Wakeboards (with a tow rope) are included with the Wake 170 and Wake Pro 230 on request.

Towing anyone? Utah requires an observer on board besides the driver, at least 8 years old, and a 12-by-12-inch orange flag displayed when a tow is finished or about to begin (Utah Outdoor Recreation (opens in a new tab)). Ask us about a flag before pickup.

Deposits and payment

We place a refundable damage hold on every jet ski rental; it’s released once the machine comes back in its original condition. Paying for the rental itself is separate. We keep both simple and explain them clearly before you ride.

  • Damage hold: $500 per machine. A refundable $500 hold goes on your card on the day of pickup (not when you book) and is released within 3 to 7 business days after the machine comes back in its original condition (timing depends on your bank). If repair or replacement costs run over $500, the difference is charged to your card, with an itemized invoice.
  • Single-day rentals: must be paid in full to confirm your reservation.
  • Multi-day rentals: pay the full amount up front, or put down a 50% deposit and the balance is processed 2 days before your pickup date. A deposit follows the same cancellation policy as full payment (below).

You’ll see the exact, current numbers when you book through Recreogo, and you’re always welcome to call us first.

Utah boater education requirement

This one is state law (HB 54 (opens in a new tab)), not our rule. Starting January 1, 2027, everyone who operates a motorboat in Utah, jet skis included, has to complete a short boating safety course once every calendar year. It takes under 20 minutes on average and covers life jackets, safe operation and navigation, boating under the influence, and invasive mussels, so it replaces the separate Mussel-Aware Boater course. Your proof is good through December 31 of the year you take it.

It applies to visitors from other states too, and rental shops like ours have to check for proof before you ride. Bring proof, or we’ll go through the state’s safety briefing with you at pickup. A copy on your phone is fine; keep it with you on the water. Utah’s rules also say anyone renting a motorboat must carry a copy of the rental agreement on board, so keep the copy from your Recreogo booking on your phone. Utah Outdoor Recreation covers the course, which it calls the Mandatory Watercraft Operator Course, in its boating FAQ (opens in a new tab), and our rider resources page sums up the rules.

Your AIS responsibilities

Utah takes invasive species seriously, and so do we. Aquatic Invasive Species rules, built around stopping the spread of quagga mussels, apply across the state. Every boat has to stop at any inspection station that’s open, and Lake Powell is mussel-infested, so leaving it means decontamination or a set dry time. For our machines it’s the decontamination: if you take them to Powell, you bring them back inspected and professionally decontaminated, with the inspection and decontamination paperwork for each machine. Our Lake Powell page explains how to get it done.

Each machine carries its current Utah AIS decal, and a copy of its AIS enrollment certificate stays in the storage compartment. At pickup we hand you a second copy: leave it on your tow vehicle’s dash while you’re on the water, since Utah asks anyone using a boat to keep one on the dash of the launch vehicle.

As the rider, you’re responsible for following the clean-drain-dry rules, stopping at any inspection station that’s open, and any decontamination steps your lake requires. It keeps Utah’s water healthy and keeps you on the right side of the law. We walk through the full breakdown, including who handles what, on our rider resources page.

Weather and cancellation

Utah weather can turn, and nobody wants to ride through a storm. Here’s how it works when the forecast doesn’t cooperate.

  • Unsafe weather: if the weather is unsafe for your rental day, you can reschedule. Call us at (801) 923-8185 and we’ll find you a new date. Weather is a reason to reschedule, not to cancel, and once a booking is rescheduled or rebooked it can’t be refunded for any reason.
  • Cancellation: 11 or more days before pickup, full refund; 6 to 10 days before, 50% of the rental fee back; 5 days or fewer, no refund. If you cancel 1 to 10 days before pickup, we’ll try to re-rent the machines and refund whatever we recover. A cancellation on the day of pickup gets no refund of any kind.

Minimum age to rent and drive

You must be 18 or older to rent one of our jet skis, and everyone who drives one must be 18 or older too, with a signed waiver on file. You must also be 18 or older to rent a paddleboard.
