Utah Lake: calm water, short drive, and our most-booked lake

Utah Lake is just under an hour south of our Woods Cross pickup on I-15 (about 56 miles to the state park in Provo), and it is where most of our first-time renters get their start. The water is forgiving: shallow (about 10 ft on average and around 14 ft at its deepest), big (about 96,000 acres), and mostly flat in the mornings.

The basics

  • Just under an hour (about 56 miles) from our Woods Cross pickup

  • Quagga-free; like anywhere in Utah, stop at an AIS inspection station if one is open. When a station is closed, clean and drain before you leave the water, and always tow with the drain plug out

  • Harmful algal blooms show up some summers, sometimes lakewide, so check Utah DEQ’s Utah Lake page (opens in a new tab) before you go and stay out of scummy or discolored water

  • We rent April through October; the state park itself is open year-round

Where to launch

We recommend the main launch at Utah Lake State Park in Provo: four ramps, a marina and courtesy docks, straight down I-15 from our pickup. It isn’t the only public ramp, though. The Utah Lake Authority (opens in a new tab) lists four other public marinas:

  • Lindon Marina, on the north end (check DEQ first: Lindon Marina Beach was under a keep-out advisory in September 2026)

  • American Fork Boat Harbor

  • Saratoga Springs City Marina (also called Saratoga Springs South Marina or Pelican Bay Marina), at the south end of Saratoga Springs

  • Lincoln Beach, on the south shore

The lake is shallow, so the Authority suggests calling your marina about the water level (opens in a new tab) before you go.

Who it is right for

Utah Lake is the easy choice if any of the following apply: first-time jet ski rider in your group, family with kids along for the ride, short outing with a same-evening return, or a morning ride when you want flat water without a long drive.

Wind and timing

Mornings are glass. The wind picks up from the south most afternoons, and because the lake is shallow, it stacks up into steep, short chop fast. Plan to launch before 10 AM for the flat water, and head for the ramp when the afternoon wind fills in. By 2 PM in July and August, the chop makes jet skis bounce hard.

The catch

Utah Lake is an easy drive for most of the Wasatch Front, so summer Saturdays get busy at the ramps. Our off-lake pickup dodges the on-lake rental queues, but you still want to get to the ramp early on weekends.

Rather not tow? Utah Lake is one of the lakes we deliver to; the delivery fee is per trip and depends on the location, so call us at (801) 923-8185 for a quote.
