Hyrum is the little one, and for the right day, that’s the whole point. It’s a small state-park reservoir in Cache Valley, just south of Logan in the town of Hyrum, and it rides about as gently as Utah lakes get. We point first-timers, families, and anyone who wants a low-key afternoon here, especially folks up in the Logan area.
Small lake, easy water
Because Hyrum is compact, you’re never far from shore and it’s hard to lose your bearings. New riders relax faster when the whole lake is in view. There’s less wide-open, full-throttle distance than you’d get on big water like Bear Lake, and for the crowd this lake suits, that’s the appeal, not a drawback.
The flip side of “small” is that it gets busy on hot summer weekends. Launch early for the calmest water and the easiest parking, and keep a heads-up for other boats and swimmers in the tighter space.
Getting there
From our Woods Cross pickup, Hyrum is about 69 miles, a little over an hour, up in Cache Valley just south of Logan. If you’re a Logan-area rider, our Logan page covers the pickup logistics; for a bigger day on bigger water, Bear Lake is the Cache Valley classic.
A couple of things to confirm before you go:
- Hyrum State Park has one boat ramp, and its status changes with the water: on October 28, 2026, the park listed it open, with an advisory, after listing it closed in late September. Check the park’s current-conditions page (opens in a new tab) before you head up.
- Mountain-valley mornings can run cool, so bring a layer.
The rules
If you pass an AIS inspection station that’s open, at the lake or on the road, Utah law says you stop. When it’s closed, you still clean and drain the machine before leaving the water, and you always tow with the drain plug out. The rest of Utah’s mussel rules apply too: every driver needs the annual boating safety course (required from January 1, 2027), and our machines already carry their current AIS decal. Details are on our rider resources page.
For a relaxed Cache Valley afternoon or a first-timer’s confidence-builder, Hyrum is a friendly little lake. Pick your day, and we’ll have your Sea-Doos ready in Woods Cross.
Launch ramps
Before you launch: from January 1, 2027, Utah requires an annual boating safety course for every driver, visitors from out of state included. Bring proof or we'll brief you at pickup, and every machine goes out clean, drained, and AIS-compliant.
- Hyrum Boat Ramp: Day-use fee at the gate. On October 28, 2026, the park listed the ramp open, with an advisory; check its status before you tow.
