Rockport flies under the radar, and that’s why we like sending people there. It’s a clean mountain reservoir tucked off I-80 near Wanship, just down the road from Park City, sitting in the same easy cluster as Echo and Jordanelle. Close enough for a real day trip, open enough to actually stretch a Sea-Doo’s legs, and usually a good deal quieter than its famous neighbors.

A genuine day-trip lake

From our Woods Cross pickup it’s a straight shot up I-80, about 52 miles and just under an hour: load the trailer after breakfast, ride the morning, and you’ve still got your afternoon. That low commitment is the whole appeal: Rockport is the “let’s just go” option when you want mountain water without building the day around the drive.

Because you pick the machines up from us in town, there’s no rental counter to wait at once you get there. You still share the public ramp, so on a busy weekend, get there early.

Ride the morning, mind the canyon wind

Like the other Wasatch reservoirs, Rockport keeps a schedule. Early mornings are glassy and forgiving (the window for first-timers and easy cruising), then the afternoon canyon breeze fills in and puts some texture on the open water. Nothing dramatic if you respect it; just launch early to get the best of it.

A few things worth knowing before you tow up:

  • It’s a real reservoir with room to open up, not a pond: deep, clean mountain water.
  • Mountain mornings run cool even in summer, so bring a layer.
  • The reservoir runs about 1,080 surface acres at roughly 6,000 feet of elevation, with the Rockport Main Ramp on the east side (check the park’s current conditions before towing).

AIS and the rules

If you pass an AIS inspection station that’s open, at the lake or on the road, Utah law says you stop. When it’s closed, you still clean and drain the machine before leaving the water, and you always tow with the drain plug out. The rest of Utah’s mussel rules apply too: every driver needs the annual boating safety course (required from January 1, 2027), and our machines already carry their current AIS decal. It’s all on our rider resources page.

Pick a morning, beat the breeze, and Rockport gives you quiet mountain miles a short tow from town. When your date’s set, your Sea-Doos will be prepped and ready to head up I-80.

Launch ramps

Before you launch: from January 1, 2027, Utah requires an annual boating safety course for every driver, visitors from out of state included. Bring proof or we'll brief you at pickup, and every machine goes out clean, drained, and AIS-compliant.

  • Rockport Main Ramp: East-side state-park boat ramp; day-use fee at the gate ($20 in 2026, seniors $15). Check the park's current conditions before you tow.
